Dominican Republic’s Mirador Santo Domingo rallied from two sets down and scored the first five points of the tiebreaker to defeat Kenya Prisons Nairobi 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-7 on Monday morning on the third day of competition in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship being held in Doha, Qatar.
Jeoselina Rodriguez paced Mirador with 25 points, while Yonkaira Paola Pena Isabel added 19 points. Kenya Prisons used a balanced scoring attack as Brackcides Khadambi led four players in double-figures with 20 points. Evelyne Makuta and Mercy Moim contributed 16 points for Kenya Prisons.
Kenya Prisons held a 7-4 ace advantage, but their 33 errors allowed Mirador to come back in the match.
Mirador ended Pool A with a 1-1 record, while Kenya Prisons lost in their first match of the competition. Kenya Prisons close out the group on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. versus VakifBank TTelekom Istanbul. The top two teams in the two three-team pools, advance to the semifinal round on Oct. 13.
